New Student Information
For new students transferring to Madison City Schools:
- New students must be enrolled via the MCS website's New Student Enrollment Page. Once requested documentation and information have been submitted and approved, the district will notify the registrar at BJHS.
- PLEASE NOTE: Upon successful enrollment in the district, you will receive an electronic confirmation, but please allow the school to contact you first. Everyone who completes the registration process receives this general confirmation. Once all requirements have been verified, the school registrar will notify your school counselor, and the school counselor will make contact with you regarding courses and scheduling.
- Counselors will typically begin to make contact with new students and parents who enroll over the summer around mid-July.
- Please keep in mind that counselors try to contact families in order based on their enrollment completion, so it may take time for you to be contacted depending on the number of new students who have completed this step prior to your student’s enrollment.
- In the meantime, please do the following to prepare for your counselor meeting:
- Complete the course request form below for your student’s grade level (helpful resources are below to assist)
- If possible, acquire or develop a student record of courses taken and grades received for high school courses from your student’s previous school.
- BJHS registrars will request an official transcript from your students’ former school, but often the delivery of transcripts is delayed and will be received well into the school year.
- Counselors will conduct a review of all courses to determine which graduation requirements have been met by your student’s previous ourses and which requirements are yet to be fulfilled.
- Without a record of previous courses and grades, it may be a challenge for your counselor to create a schedule in which he/she has full confidence will allow students to remain on track to graduate with their cohort (especially rising 11th and 12th graders).

Please review graduation requirements, core course progression charts, and course catalog (descriptions of courses, prerequisites required) to complete your course request form for your upcoming grade level. If you are a rising 9th grader, you may ONLY select courses from the 9th grade form. Be prepared with courses in mind as well as any questions you may have.
Each student selects 8.0 credits-worth of classes. This includes four core courses (English, Math, Science, Social Science) and four elective courses. Please list/include multiple alternative options for elective courses (4 to 5), as some courses may be unavailable or not fit around the requested core classes.
Thank you for your patience, and welcome to Bob Jones High School!
Transferring Credits
Bob Jones High School follows a traditional block schedule wherein the vast majority of courses are semester-long, and accrue 1.0 credit each. Students enroll in four 1.0-credit courses in the fall semester, and then in four different 1.0-credit courses during the spring semester for a total of 8.0 credits. Final exams are held in December for fall semester classes and in May for spring semester classes. Students typically will be scheduled for two core classes (English, Math, Science, Social Science) and two elective courses within each semester. Each class period in the block schedule meets for 97 minutes daily, and lasts for only one semester.
If a student transfers to Bob Jones during the school year from a high school that follows a traditional schedule (year-long courses), it is possible that the student may lose the opportunity to earn credits for courses that he/she began at the sending school. For example, if a student was enrolled in eight year-long courses before transferring to Bob Jones in January, that student would be enrolled in only four semester-long courses in the spring at Bob Jones, leaving four of the original courses in which the student was enrolled unfinished—potentially with either only half-credits awarded or no credit (depending on the sending school’s policy for awarding credit). If the sending school only awards credits at the end of the academic year (and not after each semester), the student may lose even more credits when transferring to Bob Jones.
