Experience

I taught briefly at Mountain Crest High School in Hyrum, Utah.  At that time, I taught Creative Writing (Poetry); English 12 College Prep; and two English 11 Honors. I officially began my teaching career in Alabama at Sand Rock High School in Cherokee County.  Because the school was a K-12 school, I taught a variety of English classes.  At that time I taught two seventh grade English classes (one advanced-one regular), one 11th grade Honors English, and 12th grade regular English, 12th grade Honors English, and 12 grade Advanced Placement English.  I taught for five years at Sand Rock High School and then moved to  Madison County High for three years where I taught the following classes:  English 11 (regular and honors), English 10 (Honors), and Mass Media (yearbook).  I then moved to Bob Jones High School in 2000.  I have taught several classes over the years in the English department:  Language Skills Lab, Speech, English 10;  English 12 and Mass Media (yearbook).

Bio

I was born in Evansville, Indiana, and, after living in a number of places, settled in Madison Alabama where we have lived for 15 years.  I became a teacher because my father was one, and then later he became a principal of a high school.  I always thought that I would either be a teacher or a librarian.  When I began college, I went with the intent that I would be an elementary teacher; however, after one semester working with a third grade class, my future endeavors quickly changed to secondary education.  I have taught for almost 20 years basically in the high school area.  I enjoy working with teenagers.  They have had enough experience to this point to write and speak on a variety of issues.  They are interesting people that have the ability to relate to the character's that they study in their literature or to write about the places they have been and the things they have done.
