Education

I studied Advertising and Marketing at the University of Alabama, and I received my teaching degree from Athens State University.  I earned National Board certification in Language Arts, Sec. Ed. and added a CTE/Business certification to my credentials.  I'm currently working on my Master's degree in English. 



Experience

Teaching 

During my teaching career, I have taught English 9 and 10 as well as Fine Arts, Broadcasting, Advanced Broadcasting, Creative Writing, and Literary Magazine.  Currently, I teach Creative Writing, Literary Magazine, and Multimedia Design.

Publications

I serve as the advisor for The Eclectic literary and arts magazine and website.

I also serve as the advisor for Patriot Pages, which will be the web-based version of our school newspaper in 2012-13.

Extracurricular

I coordinate Poetry Out Loud for our school and rehearse with students interested in competing at regional, state, and national competitions. 

Distance Learning

I am an A.C.C.E.S.S distance learning teacher, and I teach creative writing and English to high school students across the state through a combination of an online learning environment and videoconferencing. 

Credit Recovery

I am the A+ Credit Recovery facilitator for Bob Jones High School; this progam is offered after school and during the summer. 

Relevant Information

I am a Radio-Television News Directors' Foundation Teacher Ambassador.  I am an advocate for student publications and speak at local, state, and national student publication conferences.  I won the national RTNDF Innovative Technology in the Classroom Award, and though I don't believe technology replaces fundamental skills, I recognize its importance as a tool to facilitate understanding and to enhance communication.



Bio

I grew up in the Huntsville area.  My husband Adam and I live with our three sons and two cats in New Market.  I enjoy all things creative.  In addition to my passion for reading, writing, and filming, I also enjoy traveling, attending concerts, gardening, and cheering for our sons at sporting events.
