After graduating from Athens High School in 1986, I attended Auburn University where I received a B.S. in Microbiology in '91. Following graduation, I began working at Mid-South Testing in Decatur, AL as an Environmental Chemist. After two years I began working at the Johnson Research Center at UAH as an Environmental Chemical Analyst. While working at UAH I earned an M.S. in Biology with a Class A teaching certificate ( through the non-traditional 5th year program). I began teaching at Bob Jones High School in 1996, the first year the current Bob Jones High School opened. I taught at Bob Jones for several years before transferring to Liberty Middle School where I taught Biology for five years. While at Liberty Middle School I completed my Ed. S. in Secondary Science from the University of Alabama (Tuscaloosa) and completed my National Board for Professional Teaching Standards in Biology. I then returned to Bob Jones where I remain today as an AP Biology and AP Environmental Science teacher. I have been very fortunate to work with the Education Outreach group at Hudson Alpha Institute for Biotechnology over the past 5 summers, currently as a facilitator for their Biotech Academy.

I live in Athens, AL with my wife Vicki and our two daugters, Sullivan & Sydney. Sullivan is 17 and loves dance. She will be a senior in high school this year. Sydney is 14 and is a cheerleader and cross-country runner and will be a freshman this year. Our family spends a lot of time together reading, watching movies, and playing outside (and traveling to dance and ballgames).

I love what I teach! Biology and environmental science are two of the most important issues being addressed in society today, with most discussions focusing on genetic therapeutics and resource management. Additionally, I love getting my students out of the classroom, not just on campus but off campus as well.

I stay on top of current issues by reading journals of science and listening to podcasts, as well as LOTS of professional development in the sciences. I also help teach the Biotech Academy during the summer at the Hudson Alpha Institute for Biotechnology.
