Bio

I am a native of Huntsville, Al and graduated from Grissom High School.  I graduated from Auburn University with a BS in 1980 and MS in 1981.

I started my teaching career in Bryan, Texas and where I also served as the athletic trainer.  I worked as an Athletic Trainer and coach till 2000 when I retired from Athletic Training and devoted full time to coaching.  I have coached track at both the high school and college level.  I have also coached football, basketball (boys and girls), softball and baseball.

I have been at BJHS since 2002 where I also served as the Head Coach for Boys and Girls Cross Country and Track & Field until the end of the 2012 track season, at which point I retired from coaching.  Since 2006 I have worked as a track official and currently serve as the MeetRreferee and Meet Director for the AHSAA Indoor and Outdoor State Championship Meets.  I also officialt college meets and have done the SEC Championships every year since 2007, NAIA National Championships, and NCAA East Regional and National Championships.  This experience has prepared me to teach a new course at BJHS this year, Sports Officiating, which I am very excited about.

In April of 2015 I was humbled and honored to be inducted into the Huntsville Madison County Athletic Hall of Fame.

I am also one of three family memebers that work at BJHS.  My wife, Phillis is our bookkeeper, and our daughter-in-law Jessye Gaines is in charge of the Engineering Academy here at BJHS.
