Salvete Omnes!  mihi nomen est Magister Congo.  I began my study of Latin at Huntsville High School.  I continued studying the Roman language and culture in college and graduate school.  After I completed my education, I was fortunate enough to find a position here at Bob Jones High School.  I have taught here at Bob Jones since 2006.  I also teach Latin through the online high school program ACCESS.

I am an active member of the American Classical League.  Every year I take a group of Bob Jones Latin students to the state Latin Convention in April.  (Chaperones are always appreciated!)  Visit the Latin Club page for more information.  I often attend the American Classical League summer institute sessions for teachers to help improve my teaching.   On the weekends I enjoy getting outside with my family; whether it is canoeing Swan Creek or hiking through Wheeler Wildlife Refugee.  (mens sana in corpore sano = 'a healthy mind in a healthy body')   I am also a published photographer and enjoy taking black-and-white photography in my spare time.

I enjoy teaching Latin and believe that many ideas and concepts from the Roman world are still relevant to today's students.  The Latin language not only reinforces English grammar and vocabulary, it also encourages critical thinking skills.  Students will also discover Roman politics, philosophy, mythology and military expansion.  I believe that every student is capable of learning Latin.  It is up to the individual to determine how much they wish to succeed.
