Congratulations to the 2017-18 Competition Chess Team!

  • Practices will be held at Rainbow Elementary according to the practice schedule on the Calendar.

Bob Jones HS Wins the MCCL Team Cup! 

Congratulations to the Bob Jones Blue Team members Josh Lin, Hayden Billmann, Michael Guthrie and Will Bao for winning the MCCL Team Cup for 2018.  The MCCL Team Cup Championship is a varsity team competition among the best teams in the Madison middle and high schools. This is the first year that BJHS has won the Team Cup, a traveling trophy, and it will be displayed at BJ for one year until next year's competition.

BJHS Chess Club

The Bob Jones High School Chess Club is a student service organization affiliated with the Madison City Chess League (MCCL), a non-profit organization that helps teach kids how to play chess and develop chess skills.  There is no fee to join, but to remain in good standing, Chess Club members must perform 4 service hours per semester or 8 service hours per year.  The service hours must be related to promoting chess in the community.  Additional information can be found under Forms.  Questions can be directed to mccl.director@gmail.com.

  • Jan. 10th - Turn in volunteer hours forms from last semester & planning for the Chess Club Project for the 2017-18 year.
  • Feb. 14th - Chess Club Project planning
  • March 21st - Chess Club Project planning
  • April 11th  - Chess Club Project planning
  • April 25th  - Final plans for the All Girls State Chess Championship.
  • May 9th - Election of officers for 2018-19 year.

Upcoming Volunteer Opportunities:

MCCL at the new Madison Library (Jan. 22nd, and each Monday thereafter) : Monday Nights from 6:00-8:00 p.m. (help set up the room and tell Coach Will you are there to volunteer)

Friday, Jan. 12th - after school at Columbia Elementary - Set up for Winter Knights Tournament

Monday, Feb. 5th - after school - help set up Madison Library for the MCCL Challenge

Saturday, March 31st - Mathapalooza - chess room

Friday, April 13th - students out 1/2 day - help set up JCHS for the City Chess Championship at 2:00 p.m.

Friday, April 27th - after school at BJHS - Set up for the All Girls State Chess Championship

Recreational Chess Opportunities in Madison

 Kids who want to play chess with other kids from across the city of Madison are invited to the Madison Library on Monday evenings from 6:30-8:00 p.m. beginning on Jan. 22, 2018, when the Madison City Chess League holds its weekly meetings.
