Club Goals or Purpose: The mission of the computer science team is to sharpen the computer programming skills of the team members and encourage an interest in technology. This mission is accomplished through regular practice programming and problem-solving sessions and competitions against students from other schools across the state as well as the nation. The team competes at a minimum, in the four ACSL (American Computer Science League) meets, ACTE (Alabama Computer Technology in Education) regional and state competitions, and University of Alabama in Birmingham Programming Contest. Additional practices may be scheduled as needed.
Club Qualifications for Membership:
A student must have completed C Programming with at least a B average to join the Intermediate Team. The requirement to be on the Senior Team is at least two programming courses with a B average or higher in both courses. All members must be students presently enrolled at BJHS, but shall not be denied membership because of race, color, creed, sex, national origin, or disability.”
Meetings to be held (dates, times, location): Meetings are held on Wednesday afternoons in S216 from 3:30pm to 4:30pm.
Constitution or bylaws that govern club membership: A student must either be in a programming class or already have taken one at Bob Jones to participate. Team members who participate at competitions are selected based on attendance and level of proficiency. There is no affiliation with any political or religious organization, or any organization denying membership on the basis of race, color, creed, sex, national origin, or disability.
Dues: There is a $30 fee which is applied to programming competition registration fees.
